A total of over $400 billion will be spent on US sports betting, which is quite a lot, however only a small percentage of it (about 1 %) is actually legal and regulated properly. The head of the American Gaming Association (AGA), Frank Fahrenkopf, said that less than 1% of that amount was wagered in legal sports books in Nevada.

AGA represents the land based casinos in the US and they found out the amounts after speaking to law enforcement officials. NFL representatives think that regulating sports betting will harm the integrity of the sport. NFL teams are now trying to sell their brands to state gambling operators. So much of the money made from sports gambling gets untaxed and the NFL is happy with that.

Fahrenkopf recently said “There’s legislation and now a lawsuit in New Jersey to bring back the ability to conduct sports betting”. If the sports gambling lottery in Delaware can take single game bets, then neighboring states will want to have their own sports betting too and this will mean they will have to beat the federal law on sports gambling in Congress or in court. Fahrenkopf continued saying that “We know that the NCAA, the National Football League, National Hockey League, Major League Baseball and others are very unhappy with what has happened in Delaware”.

Yes, there is a lot of resistance against legalizing sports gaming and online sports betting, but as all Americans and gamblers know, money talks and $400 billion is quite a sum of money that can’t be ignored by officials and gamblers alike.

I don’t know what the big fuss is really… everybody likes to gamble, so regulate it fairly so that everyone gets to win… the sports stars, the gamblers, the officials, everyone.
